Efficacy of Indigenous Microorganisms and Organic Amendments in Suppressing Bacterial Wilt in Potato Production in Kisii Highlands
Bacterial wilt caused by Ralstonia solanacearum remains the most devastating soil-borne disease affecting Solanum tuberosum in the high-altitude potato belts of Kisii and Nyamira. This study evaluated the biocontrol efficacy of indigenous microorganisms (IMO) formulated with farmyard vermicompost and Trichoderma harzianum inoculants. Controlled randomized complete block field trials demonstrated a 68% reduction in wilt incidence and a 42% increase in marketable tuber yields over untreated controls.
